Recognition is the formal acknowledgement by a qualified RTO assessor of a person's competencies, regardless of how, when or where the learning occurred.

The assessor will consider any combination of formal or informal training and education, work experience or general life experiences when the candidate provides evidence to prove they have already gained the required skills and underpinning knowledge so they may be deemed competent in the relevant unit(s) of competency.

Recognition is also known as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL); Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) or Skills Recognition.
